Swim Lesson FAQs

Registration opens on the 20th of the current month for lessons starting the following month. On the 20th, the registration form will open automatically at 7:00 AM. All registration requests will be processed in the order in which they are received. If available, we will confirm your spot within 72 hours. To maximize the chances of getting a spot, please include ALL class times that work for your schedule. We will register you in the first available class based on your matching schedule and confirm via email.

Swim lessons are $150 for the month; we do not offer a sibling discount. Once your child is registered for a class, we will enroll them in recurring billing. This will automatically register them for the same class month after month until you request a schedule change, they change levels, or you cancel swim lessons. Cancellations for the next month must be submitted in writing by the 15th of the current month to avoid billing for the following month. Billing takes place on the 1st of every month.

Yes, all swim lesson participants must be active OFJCC Fitness Center members, regardless of participation in other on-campus programs. Questions about membership, including perks and costs, should be directed to ofjccmembership@paloaltojcc.org.

Please note: You MAY submit a registration request prior to activating a membership but must have an active membership prior to the 1st of the month that lessons will start. For members who also attend Club J programs, we work together with the Club J staff to provide transportation to and from the pool for lessons taking place during Club J hours.

When completing the registration form, you will indicate which swim skills your child has mastered. Please complete this as accurately as possible to assist us in assigning the appropriate level for your child. If you have additional questions, contact the Aquatics Office to further discuss level recommendations prior to the registration period.

If we see that your child is not registered in the correct level, we will do our best to find them a spot in a different class. If the schedule does not allow for a transfer, and the skill difference is within reason, the instructor will teach to the skill of your child for the current month. Then you will submit a new registration form on the 20th to get them into the appropriate class for the following month.

All children must wear a swimsuit they are comfortable moving around in. Goggles are optional for all swimmers. For children who are not fully potty-trained, they must adhere to our “triple-up policy.” The three required layers are: 1) disposable swim diaper, 2) reusable swim diaper cover and 3) a swimsuit. For swimmers with long hair, we recommend pulling it back into a ponytail.

We understand that life happens and swim lessons get missed for a variety of reasons. We do not offer make-up lessons; we will look forward to seeing you the following week.

Should spots become available during the month, we will contact swimmers on the waitlist. The price of your lessons will be prorated based on the start date. Once confirmed, your child will be added to the recurring billing and will not have to re-register the following month.

Each quarter, the Aquatics team will evaluate all swimmers during their current class. Following the assessment, we will contact you with the new level to sign up for. Then on the 20th, you will submit a registration form to sign up for the following month in their new level. During this period, we will also “graduate” students who need to change classes due to aging out of their current level.

Currently, we have a limited number of private swim lessons, though we’re not actively expanding this program. Our group lessons are intentionally kept small, and our instructors provide individualized attention to each student.
