Drop-in pickleball is available at selected times in Seiler Gymnasium.

For those new to the game, pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States and is now the third most popular participation sport in the nation. It’s fun, social and fast-paced, and combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping pong.
Best of all, pickleball can be enjoyed by players of all ages and abilities since the game is so accessible and allows plenty of opportunity for growth. It’s a great mix of exercise, socializing and friendly competition.

Whether you're brand new to the sport of pickleball, or already an experienced player looking to level up, we have a skills clinic or workshop for you! Options available for all ages and skill levels.

coach ron Gentile
Ron Gentile is an avid pickleball player and coach including coaching at the Palo Alto Pickleball Club where he teaches people of all levels. He has played a wide range of sports including racquet/paddle sports like tennis and ping pong, as well as endurance sports like Ironman triathlons. Ron has also been the point person for the Palo Alto Pickleball Club in articulating the significant role pickleball plays in addressing key community issues such as loneliness, mental health and obesity. He’s currently the founder of mental health company Moodfit and began his career at Adobe. He has a PhD from Purdue University.
Have you wanted to learn pickleball but never had the chance? If so, then our Open House sessions are the perfect opportunity to experience what pickleball at the OFJCC is all about!
During these 75-minute classes, our resident professional Coach Ron will provide a hands-on introduction to pickleball. We provide the equipment and the coaching; all you need to bring are a great attitude and a willingness to learn. Get ready to meet new friends, learn new skills and have a great time playing one of the fastest growing sports in the United States!

If you are a new player, haven’t played often or have never received professional coaching before, then this is the perfect starting point for you! Participants will be coached on the fundamental skills of pickleball with the goal to improve on the basics and have fun with other participants.
Skill Level: Beginner
- Session 1: Fridays, 5/30–6/27 | 3:00–4:15 PM | Five 75-minute sessions
- Session 2: Tuesdays, 5/27–6/24 | 8:30–9:45 AM | Five 75-minute sessions
- Session 3: Mondays, 6/2–30 | 6:00–7:15 PM | Five 75-minute sessions

This clinic will build upon the skills developed in Level One and focus on more sophisticated shots such as speed-ups and roll and flick volleys. Participants at this level should be comfortable with basic fundamentals with the goal of taking their skills to the next level. Experience playing in a formal game setting a plus but not required!
Skill level: Advanced Beginner/Early Intermediate
- Session 1: Wednesdays, 5/28–6/25 | 12:15–1:30 PM | Five 75-minute sessions
- Session 2: Fridays, 5/30–6/27 | 4:30–5:45 PM | Five 75-minute sessions

For serious Picklers only! Participants at this level have a good handle on the skills learned at Level Two and want to put them together into better constructed points. This clinic will emphasize strategy and point construction. Advanced shots will be explored and hands-on, point-by-point coaching will be provided. Sessions will be adapted to the interests and skills of the participants.
Skill level: Intermediate/Advanced
- Tuesdays, 5/27–6/24 | 10:00–11:15 AM | Five 75-minute sessions
Members: $200 | General Public: $325 (ages 16+)
Maximum capacity: 14 participants
These single-session workshops will focus on a particular shot, technique or scenario during each session.
Skill level: Open to all participants
April Session: Offensive and defensive speed-ups
Speed-ups allow players to create an advantage when at the kitchen in a dink battle, and during these workshops participants will learn how to initiate them and how to defend against them.

Roll and flick volleys are shots used in pickleball to add pressure, spin and surprise to your play.
